Episode 12 | Kat Marie: Just get it done and put it out there!

When you find clarity, the following things will happen:

  • You find a strong sense of purpose in your business. This is because you will know the purpose behind what you do and why it matters.
  • You have focus and direction. Clarity will act as your compass, providing you guidance on which direction to go. No longer will you waste time spinning your wheels or exploring options because the path is clear.
  • Your business goals will be easy to define and achieve. When you know where the centre of the dartboard is, you’re more likely to hit it.

Having clarity is one of the best feelings in the world because knowing you’re on the right path makes the journey that much easier! (and life is hard enough if you ask me!)

Why am I going on and on about clarity?

Well, let me tell you – it is because this week on the STC Podcast we have Kat Marie, of Katz Keys, who once she found clarity was unstoppable. Even if her first reaction to said clarity was “ew”.

In our chat, Kat reminds us just how important clarity is to one’s success!

Episode 09 | Lori Baker: You have to have the passion to connect.

Our conversation with Lori truly opened my eyes to my English speaking skills. (or lack of them to be more specific) Où est la bibliothèque?

Anyone? That is what I thought. Often, when we choose to learn a second language, be it in school or through a tutor, we are usually taught basic phrases.

When is the next train?
Where is the bathroom?
Where is the library? (This is the one I remember from French class…)

Normally, students are not given the tools or the skill to have a meaningful conversation, or to understand the way English speakers talk daily. As a person who only speaks English, I never thought this gap existed. Lori knew. That is why she started her tutoring business. To truly help her students close the gap between classroom English and the English needed for real life.

Listen as we talk to Lori about her journey, and what is lacking in language education. There is also a tiny bit of history and politics thrown into the mix to spice it up a little.  (I love how she explains that that last sentence would make zero sense to someone learning English in a traditional classroom setting…you’ve got to listen.)

Success Through Community podcast episode 09 with Lori Baker

Lori Baker lives in Dallas, Texas, in the US, and teaches English. She helps students close the gap between classroom English and the English used living in the US. She has been teaching one on one with students since 2016 and loves to get to know the student personally and adapt the lessons to their needs.

In 2014 she volunteered to teach group lessons with an ESL program where she met a student that had done high-rise concrete work in his home country and was wading through the vocabulary of catching a train. With her degree in engineering, she was able to reach out and meet his specific needs outside of the program. This was the start of meeting students’ needs from a problem-solving perspective. She received her TESOL certificate in 2019 to have both a background in engineering and teaching English.

In her free time, she likes to spend time with her husband and adult daughters, reading, and baking. Her favourite time is summer when she spends Sunday afternoons lying in the pool reading.

Episode 08 | Erin McAndrew: It would be boring if we were just successful overnight.

We are very excited to talk to the beautiful and crazy-talented Erin McAndrew on this week’s episode. Listen as talk about her story of finding her happy place with both her music and voice-over work. She shares with us how her consistency and commitment to her success as a musician are helping her to grow her voice-over work,  and how she powered through a pretty big obstacle in order to achieve her goals.

Also, Kelly and I don’t mean to brag – BUT allow us to toot our own horn with this episode! Erin tells us how she appreciates the ITAV Community because it is a like-minded community of women whose main goals are to help and support each other. Being embraced by a community of support when she decided to pivot her business was refreshing and has made our little community one of her absolute favorites!  (Thanks Erin, we ❤️ you too!)

Success Through Community Podcast with Erin McAndrew

Erin McAndrew is a full-time gigging Country Rock Singer/Songwriter who specializes performing at wineries. She enjoy meshing her two artistic passions between VO and Music.

Erin’s voiceover journey started when she went to school for Radio, hosting a few radio shows (classic rock and alternative!!) and doing sweepers and radio imaging. She took a break for awhile from radio, but soon found she wanted to pursue VO since it has long been a passion of hers.

In Erin’s spare time she love being outdoors, hiking, traveling, hanging out with her husband and 2 year old son, and being an organization nerd. (Home Edit style, anyone?).
