The Power of Focus: Unlocking Your Full Potential

Are You Spending Enough Time On What Really Matters?

Despite how familiar we are with blaming procrastination, it’s not a real “thing”. Procrastination isn’t a part of the human psyche – it’s not even a personality trait. It’s also not a result of poor time management skills that can easily be pointed at. Instead, researchers have found that procrastination is really a motivational problem. It’s an issue that arises because you’re not working on things that intrinsically matter to you.” – Brendon Burchard

So…you mean I’m not just being lazy?

Nope! As it turns out, according to Brendon (and I tend to agree), our tendency to procrastinate isn’t about being lazy, bad time management, or even our personality. In fact, looking at it from this perspective, I think that procrastination is actually a gift!

Why?

Well, we all have days where we struggle to focus, but when you find yourself procrastinating on the regular, or maybe just putting off a particular task on your to-do list, it might be a sign that you aren’t spending enough time doing the things that excite you in your business!

Remember when you first started your business? Remember how excited you were every day because you were finally doing something you loved? Remember how you couldn’t wait to finish whatever you were working on so that you could tackle the next?

Ya, I don’t think those things should be memories. I think they are supposed to be our present and our future…if we are working the right business.

I do want to make it clear, though. This doesn’t mean that you won’t ever have to do things that you don’t enjoy doing. Being a Solopreneur means wearing all the hats, and that’s going to come with some tasks that don’t come naturally to you or that you really don’t enjoy.

The thing is, if you are making sure to spend enough time doing the thing(s) that inspired you to start your business in the first place, then staying motivated to do those things you don’t love won’t be as big of a challenge.

So, the next time that you realize you’ve been procrastinating…be grateful! Then, take the time to review how you’ve been spending your time to figure out what hasn’t been getting enough of your focus lately.
